Kibojoe Linux 17.09rc1 is ready

Post by Holmes » Sat Aug 19, 2017 8:04 pm

I'm happy to announce our FIRST release candidate (RC1) of Kibojoe Linux (Manjaro Linux re-spin with JWM), codename MUG. So what is Kibojoe Linux? Kibo is one of three volcanic cones of Killimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa (Tanzania). We adopted the name joe from Joe Wingbermuehle, the creator and maintainer of Joe's Window Manager (JWM), wrote a window manager and called it JWM to run on the X window system. This release comes with advanced graphical installer Calamares. Stable branch was used to create the install media. For more information please read the Kibojoe JWM User Orientation Guide ( Start > Support > Kibojoe > User Orientation Guide).

Yay! I have found a solution! Sorry guys, but none of the burning method did solve it and systemd always stuck right after loading the TLP service, reloading continuosly, without respondig to any halt command. Then i patiently decided to give the prompt kernel-parameter at the starting grub:

Code: Select all

/boot/vmlinuz-x86_64 lang=it_IT keytable=it tz=UTC driver=free nouveau.modeset=1 i915.modeset=1 radeon.modeset=1 misobasedir=manjaro misolabel=KIBO1709 quiet systemd.show_status=1 fromhd 3
- Note the "3" at the end.

It loaded full and clean. Then, from here, i tried to load manually the grafical target with:

Code: Select all

systemctl start lxdm
and it fails. Reading the log it was clear that the problem was created by (drums rolling): Xorg!
It fails to load the glamour library and exited with an error. Clearly systemd keep trying to load lxdm, that can't load Xorg. This cursed display server can't work totally with the preloaded graphic-card kernel-module (see the various .modeset) and need some xf86-video--something drive to work well, or at least with some chipsets. Then i gave:

Code: Select all

pacman -S xf86-video-vesa xf86-video-fbdev
i.e. the framebuffer and vesa drive, which handles a large number of chipsets but does not include any 2D or 3D acceleration, and reloaded the lxdm.service.
Actually, i'm writing from the live-session and, my dear Holmes, i quite like it a lot :D

Suggestion: include xf86-video-{vesa,fbdev} in the next rc
------
Good work,
LivingOnBrane
